Koshi Tappu Wildlife Reserve is situated on the flood plains of the Sapta-Koshi River in Eastern Nepal. The reserve is a wetland of international significance. This wildlife reserve established in 1976 with its occupying area of 175 square kilometers. It was declared a Ramsar site in the year 1987. It is home to more than 280 bird species including 20 duck species, 2 species of ibises, many storks, egrets and herons. The endangered swamp partridge and Bengal florican are found here. The Koshi Barge is an extremely important resting-place for migratory birds. The last surviving population of wild buffalo or arna is found here. The reserve is also home to many types of mammals such as hog deer, spotted deer, wild boar and blue bull. The endangered Gharial crocodile and Gangetic dolphin have been recorded in the Koshi River. The vegetation mainly includes tall khar-pater grasslands with a few patches of khair-sissoo scrub forest and deciduous mixed riverine forest. During the monsoon, the reserve is flooded with depths ranging from 10 to 300 cm. From season to season the Sapta-Koshi River changes its course. A trip to Koshi is best for at least 3 nights. And from 3 nights it will be better to have as many times as you can manage to get into the deep grassland to view rare species of birds and animals.<br><br>Access: 45 Minutes of flights from Kathmandu to Biratnagar and 45 minutes of drive from the Biratnagar will take you to the door of National Park. If you wish to travel by road it will take about of 10 hours from Kathmandu by normal car or coach.

09.00: Raft boat on the Sapta Koshi River with Naturalist to view some of the water birds, water buffaloes, dolphins and various water habitats. End boat trip by the bank of river and have picnic lunch. Short drive to the Koshi Barrage to view some bird-life and fresh water Dolphins. Late afternoon return to the camp.

09.00: Birding all along the dam of the Koshi River and the area of Pink Tower crossing the Koshi Barrage. Picnic Lunch at the Pink Tower, Late afternoon return to camp looking for some more birds.
