Phoksundo Lake Trek - 12 days
Trek to the wildwest high altitudes lake of Nepal

Dolpo is located inside the Shey-Phoksundo National Park. It lies to the north of the Dhaulagiri Range and towards the Tibetan Plateau. Here one can find a finely preserved ecosystem that consists of variety of plants and wildlife, including the blue sheep and the elusive snow leopard. The view of the Kanjiroba peak, Phoksumdo Lake and the Dhaulagiri massif is one of the most rewarding moments of this trek. A visit to the Phoksumdo Gompa- dedicated to the ancient Bon Po religion is a memorable experience. This trek is for people who are exceptionally fit and prepared to take what Himalayan wilderness trekking has to offer.

Situated inside the Shey-Phoksundo National Park of Western Region of the country, Dolpo stands totally isolated. It lies behind the Dhaulagiri range and is cut off from the Tibetan Plateau by high passes. The high valleys of Dolpo are some of the most remarkable in the Himalaya with sweeping views, stretching to the arid Tibetan remote, unspoiled part of Nepal that has remained largely untracked and unexplored. Time has stood still here for centuries as the inhabitants of Tibetan stock continue to live, cultivate and commerce the way they have done since time immemorial. The finally preserved eco -system encompasses a wild and wonderful variety of plants and wildlife, including the blue sheep and now leopard.

Phoksundo Lake, 145 meters / 475 feet deepest, telling the deepest lake in Nepal is inside Shey Phoksundo National Park being a part of it by southern end., offers stunning beauty. Considered inviolable by the Dopla locals, it is praised for its aquamarine greenish blue color. No aquatic life in the lake pronounces that the water is crystal clear. Called by the seasoned travellers the jewel of Dolpo, Phoksundo Lake gives refreshing experience to the eyes by 167 meters tall waterfall from teh dam. Ringed by tall snow-capped mountains, view of Phoksundo Lake is an extremely satisfying experience.

Through the valley of Suli Gad, you cross the beautiful forest of Pines and juniper. A trail continues above a gorge with a water-fall until Buddhist Ringmo village. After this tiny village, arrive to monastery, observe Buddhist Puja until the other parts of neighborhood.
